When Cristiano Ronaldo suffered an injury in the first match after a wizard named Pepe wrote a letter to Real Madrid informing them that he had been hired to cast a spell on Cristiano to cause him to get hurt, the world’s crazies took this as a call to action.

First, Fernando Nogueira, a Portuguese man known as “the wizard of Fafe”, came forward and said he had been hired by close to Ronaldo to counter the black magic spell. Well, Ronaldo is still hurt and Pepe is now threatening to curse him with another injury that will end his career, so the situation looks dire for Ronaldo. Is there no one who can save him from this storm of coincidence and make believe magic?

That’s right, on Monday a group of Peruvian Shamans gathered outside the Spanish embassy in Lima to channel their own powers of delusion into removing the curse on Ronaldo (pictured above). Though the ritual does look a bit more menacing than helpful, what with the sharp metal things and all the wackadoos and the maracas(?), I think there just might be enough insane nonsense going on here to counteract that of Pepe the wizard.

Ben Spies to race Valentino Rossi and James Toseland in Valencia

Ben Spies will make a shock Yamaha MotoGP debut in the season’s final race in Valencia next month. MCN learned that Yamaha has submitted an entry application to Dorna and the International Race Teams Association for the Texan to ride a fifth YZR-M1 machine in the last race on November 8. And confirmation of the one-off ride for Spies was made a short time ago in Estoril.

The move follows confirmation earlier this week that the 25-year-old would replace James Toseland and join compatriot Colin Edwards in the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 squad for 2010. And it sets up the mouth-watering prospect of seeing Spies line-up against reigning world champion Valentino Rossi and Toseland in the season’s finale.

A wild card in Valencia for Spies would give him three more days of preparation for the 2010 season with the winter testing schedule slashed to just eight days to help cut costs. A full race weekend would also give Spies a chance for him to familiarise himself with the YZR-M1 machine.

It would also help him ahead of a two-day test immediately after the final round in Valencia that will take place on November 10 and 11. Spies will race in Valencia in Yamaha’s corporate blue colours and not under the Fiat or Monster Tech 3 banners.

After MotoGP went four stroke, there was never any doubt about which was the premier class of motorcycle racing. Coinciding with the flight of the Japanese manufacturers from World Superbikes, the combination of Valentino Rossi's charisma and roaring, smoking, sliding 990cc bikes solidified the series' position as the pinnacle of two-wheeled racing which would brook no competition. But as the Japanese manufacturers started to slowly creep back into World Superbikes, and MotoGP switched to an 800cc capacity, the balance of power has started to shift.

During the off-season, that movement has started to snowball: The combination of 35 entries in World Superbikes and Kawasaki's withdrawal from MotoGP has switched the spotlight from the Spanish-run series to the Italian-based championship. Once jokingly referred to as the Italian Open Championship, the ten nationalities which fill the 2009 World Superbike paddock has laid that old chestnut very forcefully to rest. World Superbikes are in the ascendancy, and with the might of the marketing organization which runs FIFA behind them, the Flammini brothers are preparing to take on the pomp of Carmelo Ezpeleta's Catalunyan power base.

They have everything going for them: While Kawasaki was pulling out of MotoGP, two new manufacturers, BMW and Aprilia, were joining World Superbikes, with KTM warming up their RC8R in the supporting Superstock class. What's more, and probably more importantly, this season looks like being one of the most open contests there has been for a very long time. Ask one WSBK fan who they like for the title and they will give you a long list of favorites, and ask a couple more fans and you end up with a list of possible champions almost as big as the entire MotoGP field.

But force them to make a choice, and you soon whittle it down to a manageable list of names in with a serious chance of lifting the title this year. The bookies' favorite and heir apparent to Troy Bayliss' throne is Noriyuki Haga. The Japanese veteran is after all on Bayliss' bike, and as Haga came surprisingly close to preventing the Australian from running away on the factory Xerox Ducati last year, now that he's on the 1098R, he is surely a force to be reckoned with. The only problem with this scenario is Haga's undoubted ability to beat himself. Always fast, and always spectacular, too often Haga is also prone to throw the bike up the road, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. If Haga is to finally secure the championship he has been chasing for so many years, he will need to be a little more considered, and a little more consistent.

For Haga has some very serious competition, from rookies and veterans, young riders and old. It is unusual for one rookie to be tipped for the title, but for three of them to be in the mix is truly remarkable. And it is a remarkable crop which will be entering World Superbikes this year. The newcomer whose name is generating the most debate is Ben Spies. The triple AMA superbike champion is revered in the US for beating the relentless Mat Mladin three years in a row, while elsewhere around the world, there is much scepticism about the depth of Spies' talent. Such doubts are understandable, as the AMA series gets very little exposure outside of North America, and it is perceived as a two-horse affair between whoever happens to be aboard the field-destroying Yoshimura Suzukis. motomattes

Toyota will be offering a 6-speed automatic transmission on V6 models that is lighter and cheaper to produce than the 5-speed auto it is replacing. Now that's progress. Pricing for the 2007 Camry will not rise compared to the 2006 model despite more standard features. Toyota has made a strong effort at making the 2007 Camry fun to drive. With increased torsional rigidity, the Camry moves with confidence through twisty back roads. The interior is first rate and no longer looks as dull as the previous generation. This is a car to watch as it shows Toyota has not forgotten about passenger cars.


2007 Toyota TundraToyota is serious about building trucks. So serious in fact that the Tundra will be built in a new plant in the heart of truck country, San Antonio, Texas. The 2007 Tundra is going after the heart of the pick-up truck market and taking on the best from Ford, GMC, and Dodge. The Tundra will come standard with a 4.0L V6 and will have two V8 engines available, a 4.7L and 5.7L. Equipped with the 5.7L V8, the Tundra will be capable of towing 10,000 pounds. Although Toyota realizes truck buyers are a very loyal bunch, they still plan to produce 200,000 Tundra trucks in the first full year of production. This is up from 120,000 they are producing of the current model. Toyota sees some growth opportunities in the truck market and that may be a difficult pill for the competition to swallow.


2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC SierraLike Toyota, Chevrolet (along with GMC) is preparing to introduce a revised line of pick-up trucks. Based on what is known as the GMT900 platform, GM is hoping that the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra can maintain its position as a leader in this class. The Silverado and Sierra twins will offer fuel saving features such as DOD (Displacement On Demand) and a 6-speed automatic transmission. GM was hoping to introduce an independent rear suspension on the 2007 models but they decided not to proceed with it due to budget cuts and a shortened development time. The 2007 Silverado and Sierra will be critical to GM's turn around plan over the next few years.


2006 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC YukonThe only 2006 on the list, the Tahoe and Yukon are vital to GM's turn around effort. Introduced in January, these vehicles show how serious GM is about building thoughtfully designed vehicles that offer increased fuel economy and refinement. The 2006 Tahoe and Yukon are thoroughly updated with enhanced interiors made with upgraded materials. The Tahoe and Yukon offer increased fuel economy due to a variety of enhancements including an available 6-speed automatic transmission and a more aerodynamic profile. GM is hoping the vehicles will sell due to how good they are rather than incentives. So far the Tahoe and Yukon have been a big success as GM is having a difficult time keeping up with demand.

GM is placing a bigger focus on its passenger cars as gas prices continue to rise and people question whether they need a SUV or pick-up. The 2007 AURA is based on the Epsilon platform shared with the Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6. This is a very important product for Saturn, as it will showcase a new design theme for the brand. Replacing the L-series, the AURA will offer the same power trains as the Malibu and G6. Edgier styling and a more upscale image should help Saturn bring more people into their dealerships. Manchester United have been cleared of any wrong doing over their signing of 16 year old player Paul Pogba.

French side Le Havre alleged that United were in breach of transfer regulations relating to minors, saying that they (Le Havre) had agreed a contract with the player.

However a judge appointed by football’s governing body FIFA disagreed. The judge said that, as the player was a minor, it was impossible for him to agree a contract and that, as Pogba only received nominal expenses for playing for Le Havre, he was still an amateur.

A Manchester United statement read:

“Manchester United are pleased to confirm that the Football Association has been authorised by Fifa to register Paul Pogba as a Manchester United player with immediate effect.”

Demand Forecast 2007 to 2016: Small Car Strength Hits Short-Term Electronics
Demand," highlights the impact that the surge in small car market during 2009
has had on the demand for automotive electronics.

Government incentive programs around the world have fueled a one-time boom in
the sales of smaller, lower-cost vehicles, as the incentives on offer have
typically been for a fixed amount, regardless of purchase price. A $2,000
discount is thus far more attractive on a $10,000 car than a $50,000 one.

"Whereas the period 2002 to 2008 saw a fairly linear rise in average Electronic
Control Unit (ECU) content, from around $550 to $650, 2009 will stall at that
level because of this unprecedented demand for small cars," said Ian Riches,
Director, Global Automotive Practice. "Future growth looks much better, as the
market swings back to its long-term norms and increased electrification in the
powertrain boosts electronic content. Strategy Analytics is forecasting average
content to hit almost $800 per car in 2013," he added.

"While some negative effect on profits will be felt by car makers in light of
the lower margin on smaller cars, it is the electronic Tier Ones and
semiconductor suppliers that are feeling the full impact of this temporary slow
down in electronics demand," commented Chris Webber, VP Global Automotive
Practice.

Ford, UAW reach tentative deal on contract Tentative pact could be a tough sell to Ford's 41,000 UAW members

DETROIT - Union leaders from Ford’s factories voted Tuesday to recommend that members approve a deal to lower the automaker’s labor costs to match those of its Detroit rivals.

The deal, which runs until 2011, gives workers a bonus if they ratify the agreement and guarantees new vehicles for five assembly plants. But it also bans strikes over wages or benefits, freezes entry-level wages and changes work rules to require some skilled-trade employees to do more than one job.

UAW President Ron Gettelfinger told reporters Tuesday that the deal brings Ford Motor Co. on par with Chrysler Group LLC and General Motors Co., which were given concessions as they headed into bankruptcy protection earlier this year.

Alpha Sports (ASP) is an Australian kit car manufacturer. It makes sports cars originally based on the styling of the Lotus Seven but have evolved to construct their own distinctive designs.

In the 1960s Rory Thompson (in company with Ray Lewis) built Lotus 7 type cars as "Bacchus Clubman". They used BMC B-Series 1500 engines. Later they were called ASP, Alpha Sports Productions, with a workshop located at Alpha House, Alpha Street, Kensington, Adelaide, Australia. The first car and a few later ones used Ford 1500 engines, however most early ASP's (road and race)used Toyota 3-K 1200 / 1300 pushrod engines.

Currently the company build an ASP 320 G Clubman using the Toyota 4AGE 20 Valve 1.6 liter DOHC. The chassis can fit other engines and some owners are currently building with the mew Mazda engines.

The larger ASP 350/570 fitted with V6 and V8 engines respectively. The chassis design allows a wide variety of engines may be fitted. The cars were designed to be built use Holden engines and drive trains.

Alpha Sports cars are still in production in Adelaide, South Australia, with over 15 cars in production and several inquiries. All models of ASP are currently still being built with plans to construct a new more modern vehicle to suit the changing preferences in the motor industry.
